I haven't seen this film (although I may seek it out now!) but I do remember Wild Mountain Thyme as a popular book - written by Rosamunde Pilcher who was a Brit herself, so I wonder if that is why so many critics were understandably cranky/a bit sensitive about the Irish vibe?
Thank you for weighing in, Sue! So I took a look at Wild Mountain Thyme by Rosamond Pilcher, which I’m positive I read back in the 80s…cuz I read every one of her books!
I appreciate the link you shared! I checked it out, and now…color me confused. The plot of Pilcher’s book as described on Amazon had no resemblance whatsoever to the plot of Wild Mountain Thyme, the movie.
What I read about “Outside Mullingar,” the play, did follow the movie’s plot. I figured the movie was named after the lovely Scottish-Irish tune, which is sung several times during the movie.
In any event, I definitely recommend the film as a lovely, uplifting respite, just like “All Creatures”! We just started Season 4, and don’t want it to ever end.
I wasn't a huge fan of Brooklyn because I HATED the over-the-top Brooklyn accent of the lead guy. LOL. My favorite Irish story is a series that lasted only one season--My Mother and Other Strangers. I almost wished I hadn't started watching it because I didn't notice it was cut short. It really captures the feeling I always get when I visit Ireland. Sad, beautiful, and a bit strange ;) I used to be married to a Dubliner and dated men from Tipperary, Cork, Limerick, and Mayo. Yes, I got around that island.
That’s so interesting, that you were married to an Irishman! Yes, you did get around, lol…You have a very intriguing life story, and look forward to hearing more!
My son and daughter-in-law couldn't stream either (on the farm) until a couple of years ago when they invested in Starlink for all their internet needs. Now they're cursing and wondering how to ditch Elon Musk!
Oh my gosh! I feel for them. Our neighbors all got Starlink a couple of years ago, but even then, my husband and I couldn’t stand Elon Musk. Now we are thanking our lucky stars (pun intended) that we resisted the fast and easy solution.
I hope your son and daughter-in-law can find a workable alternative!
Also…I love that people are resisting where and how it hits the billionaires where it hurts…spending their money elsewhere!
Susan, I know it's awful but Australia, like Canada, is now pushing for Buy Australian. Even more since we have just been hit for no economic reason that makes sense, with a 25 % tariff on steel and aluminium. We have to do it to support our nation, even if it means US farmers and manufacturers wilt because of it. This is all just hateful...
You are such a caring person, to think of all the US farmers and manufacturers that will be hurt. The capriciousness and hatefulness of this administration knows no bounds.
I'm noting this one. I'll cope with the accents simply because no one does a good Australian accent unless they're an Australian or a New Zealander. And God knows we need romance at the moment.
The title interested me as Rosamunde Pilcher write a novella called Wild Mountain Thyme. I watched a lovely movie the other day called Love and Gelati. It was sweet. Enough said.
Husband is currently watching Zero Day which actually gave me dizziness and then vertigo with the style of filming, so I gave up and made a few hearts. Besides, it has this 'current' feel to it which is unnerving.
I'm all for soft movies just now. Inspirational but gentle if I can get them.

Either way, sounds like a delightful respite from the darkness of the news. (That's what 'All Creatures and Great and Small' is also for!!)

PS, Thanks for mentioning that series—I’m going to look for it. When it comes to Ireland, I’m totally up for ”sad, beautiful and a bit strange”!

For your readers with Streaming services it’s looks like you can get it on Prime, Hulu and Max. I saved it on Max to watch this weekend 🍀
Thank you so much, Carrie! The fact that one can do streaming often slips off my radar, lol.

Thank you for this Prue. “Wild Mountain Thyme,” the tune, is so lovely and sweet.
I’m with you…I can only deal with soft and gentle films/series these days. Perfect timing for “All Creatures” Series 4!
I’ll look for “Love and Gelati”—it sounds like it’s just my speed!
