I am sort of tickled by the idea of chickens, but it gets so cold here for so long in winter... plus we have a dog who would hunt them. And hawks. And lots of foxes.

Good luck and have a lovely, warm spring!

I’m interested in your average winter temp up there? Futzing around with heaters outdoors does add a layer of complications.

You do have your share of crafty predators—foxes and hawks… I recall you have a Beagle? Seem like the foxhunts on Downton Abbey had lots of Beagles in the pack—so I guess this breed is a natural hunter!

The best to you for spring too—Thanks so much for reading! 😊

Our Beagle is more of a crow-chaser and vole hunter :) but she does enjoy patrolling the garden and sniffing tracks when we go on walks.

Winter temperatures here are about -5 - -2C / 23-28F average. But this year we had -22C / -8F a few times for a few days.

I suppose if your Beagle chases crows, she would think it would be great fun to chase chickens!

Oh, my that *is* chilly. In the 20s F isn’t so bad, but -8! COLD!

Would love chooks on the farm but with snakes and feral cats, I'm not sure we could stand the heartache. You're a brave lady.

PS—oh, my…Snakes!!! If I had to deal with snakes big enough to attack chickens, I would have given up on my first sighting!

You’re so kind, Prue. “Brave” sounds so noble—I never thought of that. With me, it’s more a stubborn determination to make things work, despite less than good odds. Thank you so much for reading.
