Thank you for your kind words, Prue! I’m so delighted you’re enjoying Little Farm Writer 😊😊

It’s wonderful to be considered brave—still, seeing the bear in our yard a half dozen times takes away a lot of my fear and trepidation. Now if it was a grizzly, I would be singing a different tune!

Australia is pretty raw with beasties that creep, crawl and swim but seriously - bears, mountain lions and so forth?

I'd barely be able to sleep.

Once again Sue has nicely covered our bear adventures. We really did learn from the W&F agent and he reaffirmed things which we knew. It is so important to prune your trees for size control and to thin the crops to manageable levels. And then to harvest all the fruit as quickly as possible. Black Bears are naturally shy so removing “food rewards” is key. Singing and talking while you work and hike is also helpful. Also, ‘Sanditon’ is a fun diversion for evening viewing.

Great job summing up good orchard management! All we have to do is face the February chill to get those trees pruned!

Also, I’m a very lucky girl to have a guy who will watch Jane Austen shows with me! 😊

Happy anniversary to your substack! I know we've talked about video cameras being odd for you but I feel like they could really come in handy. ("Blink" is a great brand/service). If nothing else, you might get famous for bear videos (haha, I know not your dream).

Thank you for the good wishes, Carrie—and I appreciate the suggestion of a good brand of wildlife cams too! We’d have to set up a lot of them…I know of at least five spots where the bear came in!

I guess my fame as bear videographer will have to wait…there’s no more food to steal in our garden, and the bear will be hibernating soon—fingers crossed!
