Encounters in nature are often mystical, I think. It's as if the thread that connects all sentient beings right back through time suddenly becomes that much stronger. Perhaps its why many cultures have believed in spirit animals.
I also am intrigued with 'spritz cookies'. Is there a spice flavour?
And I think your sister sounds like a deeply connected person - not, as you say in woo-woo way but with enviable empathy and intuition.
Cheers, Susan and goodluck with the new publication.
Thank you so much, Prue. I so appreciate your very lovely and meaningful observations. Over the years, my wildlife encounters have made me see animals in a very different light…that even wild creatures have thoughts and feelings and purpose. The encounters you’ve shared, and the story of your spirit animal too, have reinforced my sense of this.
Spritz cookies are basically a butter cookie recipe but with the addition of an egg, which makes them richer. They’re also created with a cookie press, instead of rolling or drop cookies. I’ve been thinking about them so much lately I’m going to make them, even though I don’t have a cookie press!
I think you must be on the same wavelength as my sister—she adores animals, and as I wrote, feels deeply connected to them. She is deeply intuitive too, as you guessed. She has had a hard life, so it means a lot to me that you “get” her—even more, that you “see” her gifts.
More creatures today, Susan. We went out in the boat and met up with very focused and busy dolphins. They stayed to play momentarily but their focus was food and so they pushed on swiftly. Nevertheless, it is and will always remain a thrill to see them in the wild. Aren't we lucky, you and I, that we are where the wild things are?
Oh Prue! Yes, we are so fortunate to encounter wild animals in our daily lives. How wonderful you communed with the dolphins! Wild creatures that appear to seek connection with humans are especially awe-inspiring!
Susan, I have read and then re-read this post many times now. So powerful and frankly brave to wade into that "woowoo" territory - but I am so glad that you did. I believe 100% in this kind of connection particularly in nature and if you know - you know. There is a great deal of untapped mysticism around us and it has brought me much comfort in my life.
As for owls, my mum passed away when I was a teenager (nearly 50 years ago now) and I remember vividly to this day, a series of dreams leading up to her passing. One of the dreams featured a large owl made entirely of crystal slowly rotating on a kind of dais, colours pulsing through it like a prism. It was definitely being shown to me, but there was no foreboding feeling just a kind of privilege at being allowed this brief glimpse. I had no idea at the time that owls were sometimes associated with messages but only a few days later she had passed away. I will never forget the dream or how it made me feel at the time. Your sister has, I believe, a true gift. Thank you so much for sharing this very personal and striking post and all the best with your new books!
Sue, I’m so very honored that you shared this extraordinary experience. Your brief glimpse of this owl image must surely have been a peek into what’s beyond this earth and what we know, a moment behind the veil. I’m glad the dream comforted you, with such a terrible loss.
Reading how deeply you believe in the “untapped mysticism around us,” reaffirms my own feelings, especially that there’s no such thing as coincidences.
I’m so grateful to you for this lovely message, and your good wishes with my books. All the best, and I’m very much looking forward to your next post!
They are, aren’t they? It must be the reason there’s so much mythology and spiritual beliefs attached to them. Some a bit gruesome, true, but most really interesting! Thank you for reading! 😊
How I love this post.

This was a really special read! How remarkable that we had an owl hooting outside our campsite this week! Sending love your way and to “E” too!
Thank you so much, Carrie ❤️ I guess owls are dispensing their wisdom to both of us! Lots of love to you guys too!

Owls are so magical:)
And I am dying to read that book - thanks for reminding me of its existence!

What an amazing experience with the owls. 💕 Thank you for sharing it.
I love that you published a Christmas book! I can’t wait to read it!
Yes, it felt quite extraordinary. As I said, I have rarely seen owls in the daytime…much less locked eyes with them!
Thank you for your interest in my little holiday book, Amanda! I appreciate your support so much 😊
