LOVED Ted Lasso! Especially during the Pandemic it was a moment of brightness and something to look forward to! (As was Jamie Tartt, do-do-do-do-do!)
Such a perky post to read today - thanks!! BTW my big brother inspired me to cook and used to make us Kraft pizzas from a "kit" before they were mainstream as well as secret, old school popcorn/homemade French fries late at night while we watched 'Planet of the Apes' or Vincent Price 'The Fly' movies! (There's 13 years between us so I was VERY impressed at 7!)
He remains my muse and is an excellent cook to this day. Cheers!! xo
“A moment of brightness” exactly describes the show 😎 And the fans’ songs/cheers! I just love that it’s so life affirming.
Your story about your brother was my moment of brightness today. I have never before heard of a big brother cooking for his little sis. Those must be lovely memories of the secret, late night snacks and movie-watching. He sounds like an extraordinary guy! Thank you so much for reading 😊
I grew up in a house where as soon as you could read a recipe you were allowed to cook and bake. My grandmother was a bit unhinged, so her daughters had to fend for themselves. It seemed perfectly normal for us to be using the oven as soon as we could reach the oven knobs. My best friend and I fell in love with a 1950's children's Betty Crocker cookbook from the library. Obviously, it smelled of old books but also of stale flour. the pages were stained and crusty with sugar granules stuck in the binding. I don't know if any other kids in the town ever got to see the book. We lived right next to the library so as soon as the book came due for me, my friend would take it out. :)
What a sweet story, Adrienne! (Except for your grandmother.) What fun, to have learned to cook with your best friend. A kid’s Betty Crocker cookbook sounds really familiar…we might have had a copy in our family! I loved your image of the stained and crusty pages…I think the shortbread page of my Betty Crocker (Big Red binder version) wound up looking like that too!
My wife Sue is a passionate person who keeps me on my toes. I had not really heard of Ted Lasso but at least willing to give it a look see. At first I only recognized one actor, that was Juno Temple but then I discovered that “Rebecca” had a role in later episodes of Game of Thrones. It took only one episode of Ted Lasso to hook the both of us. We’re now in our second full viewing of all three seasons, and a purchase is on my shopping list. I am not quite as bothered by the F-bombs as Sue was, though they did get a bit used to listening to. My parents virtually never swore except for the occasional dam-it or hell! Now Sue and I have three series which we’ll alternate viewing in between our favorite Jane Austin movies: Doc Martin, The Big Bang Theory, All Creatures Great and Small and now Ted Lasso. For me I also have Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Black Sails and Lord of the Rings. Fortunately our County Library system has a good and increasing list of dvd titles.
I also hope you enjoyed Sue’s personal history of cooking. I met her first MIL, a very fine woman and grandmother. I look forward to reading cooking histories from those who follow Sue, so please do contribute to the enjoyment for all of us. John, the husband
It’s not *too* surprising that you like Ted Lasso, you being a soccer grandpa and all! But I’m so lucky that you enjoy all the Jane Austen series/movies as much as I do! ❤️
