Hi Sue,

This weekend we had the joy of viewing 'The Quiet Girl' based on the novel "Foster" by Claire Keegan. It was quite moving. I recommend it. The film, however, let a big component out of the story. If you get it, you will notice that. Otherwise, it hewed to the book quite closely, even the language.

Oh, Mom, I’m so glad you watched “The Quiet Girl,” and thank you for mentioning it! As soon as I read this, I wondered if the film had finally come out in DVD and went online to check…and what do you know, it did, just a couple of months ago!

Hi Sue,

I had no idea that the high tech was so problematic. How about Mr. Musk who has massive numbers of star-links racing around the sky. How dreadful that nothing is sancrosanct. No wonder our earth is so polluted.

You are lucky to be out of Bellingham traffic most days. The number of streets being repaired is so great and the detours so congested that it takes three times longer to use the surface streets than before. Tim has come to the point where he despises the traffic, and can't wait to get home and to his lake Shangri-La and just breathe the air.

You and John made such a good choice of living space. Hopefully, Mr.Bear will keep his/her distance. But it did appear to be a rogue bear and they can be dangerous.

Hello Sue, I was fascinated by your high or low tech dilemma. Given the shortcomings of your low tech, I daresay I would opt for the high tech and then discipline myself to stream only occasionally. But somehow the low tech does fit You and John with your simple life and homesteading garden focus.

I haven't read Sense and Sensibility for years, but have been actively keeping up with my Book Group plus a few more each month, then add the myriad of magazines I continue to subscribe to. Of course, don't forget the New York Times, and the reading becomes a bit burdensome, especially the repetitious emphasis on the ongoing trial coming up for the former president.

Bravo on the blueberries! The perfect food. Enjoy your life. It's perfect as it is!

Thank you so much for this lovely, thoughtful note, Mom ❤️ Blueberries really *are* the perfect food…I forget all the hard work when I’m feasting on a big bowl of freshly picked berries!

After I wrote about our tech dilemma, I learned that the high “techie-techie” internet is so fast because the company has over 3,700 satellites orbiting the Earth—so many that they’re adding light in the sky. All these satellites are actually leaving trails of light on the photos coming from the Hubble telescope too. So we’ll keep our low-slow tech, thank you very much!

I really went on that journey with you deciding you should stream and then agreeing that you shouldn't. It IS a time suck. If only you could just get the shows you want but only like the 5 best ones.

Thank you, Carrie! Shows like Ted Lasso comes to mind, that I’ve heard so much about and would LOVE to watch. There’s also a new show starring Chris O’Dowd, the Irish actor, that sounds delightful. But I guess I’ll never know!

I adore Jane Austen. And I’m with you, keep the slow internet. I can’t tell you how many time each day I’d love to take everyone’s devices and just throw them all out the window. Technology is a blessing and a curse. I think slow Internet would help balance the two sides of that coin.

I'm so glad you re-read Sense & Sensibility! I think something new jumps out with every re-read of Austen. Also glad your bear has moved on and you get to enjoy your blueberries.

Me too! I couldn’t believe all the wonderful passages I missed before 😊 So far so good with the bear…but holding my breath a bit now that the crabapples are almost ready!

I totally agree! Thank you for your thoughts…I remind myself that less time online means more time out in nature 😊 Speaking of, I hope your lovely acreage is thriving!

The book and film grow on a person in a way that's quite unbelievable. The child is so compelling; the situation is so dire. The film emphasized these in a way that writing could not communicate entirely.

You mus see the film!

Mike has Covid and is very sick. Say a few prayers for him, please.

love, love
