That is so, so sweet. She was a lovely little girl, wasn’t she? I so wish I’d known a whole lot more about how to raise a not-anxious, socially well-rounded pup. I’m glad you shared this❤️
I think you were so brave. Wonderful post and such a clear image of how you live. Nasties aside. It does sound like heaven.
Wasps here (European Wasps) are horrid, lurking anywhere where there's sweetness and food supplies. We had a nest in the agapanthus last year and the family were consistently dive-bombed on the patio right through the summer. Husband waited until dark and then let off insect bombs amongst them in the hope we could move them on. They're tenancious. Nast critters!
But no bears, nor coyotes. Just tiger snakes and jack jumper ants. Sigh...
Dear Prue, that’s so very kind! Thank you! I suppose many things that used to be unusual or nerve-wracking around here have become normal, everyday happenings, like seeing bears or getting the garden chores done with wasps flying around. It does feel like heaven to us—we find it very hard to be away!
I will look up Europeans wasps—they do sound aggressive! And an entire summer of them 😬 Sometimes you have no option but to bomb these critters. I’m very glad no one in your family was stung badly or had an allergic reaction.
Well, gosh…I think I’ll take the bears! At least you can see them coming, which I can’t say for snakes and ants! Thank you again for reading 😊
I've been reading so much lately about people noticing a huge decline in ALL insect life this summer that this is strangely heartening - although I am a very reluctant admirer of wasps too and was stung only yesterday for no apparent reason! We are in Ontario, Canada and having similar temperature swings: putting the heating on one day, boiling hot a few days later! Gardening always demands such patience and philosophical shrugging though, doesn't it? I love that you were so tenacious though, much applause!
Thank you for this very thoughtful comment, Sue! I’m sorry you got stung…it’s never fun 😬 And the itching afterward is awful!
I fear all the “cides” of modern food-growing, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides etc must be having a huge impact on insect populations. Wasps are certainly *very* inconvenient, but I like the alternative far less.
I appreciated your weighing in on what’s happening in Ontario! We share similar thoughts on food gardening, for sure. Even after all these years (18 here in the Foothills), I’m still trying to cultivate patience and a more philosophical outlook through the ups and downs! Thank you so much for reading!
This had me reminiscing about “Lady”. She was the closest thing I had to a therapist in middle school. ❤️

Oh, and very nice juxtaposition of Mr. Darcy and your coyote!
I have discovered one can fit a Jane Austen allusion into almost any situation!
That is a truth universally acknowledged.
Lol! 😊
Planning on taking our Irish terrier to Ireland next year, will look out for Holly!
Sounds like a fabulous trip! Thanks so much for reading 😊

Thank you for the shout-out, Susan! And for calling our dog well-trained; you give him & us too much credit. 😂
Your wasp invasion sounds horrifying. Good for you for holding out until dark to harvest.
